How to fax a PDF online

A PDF is the perfect thing to fax: the layout is locked, so the pages arrive exactly as they look on your screen. Here's how to fax one from your browser in about a minute — no fax machine, no subscription.

Fax a PDF in 3 steps

  1. Upload the PDF Go to faxer.me and attach your file. The server reads the real page count from the PDF itself, so the price you see is exact before you pay anything.
  2. Enter the fax number US, Canadian, and international numbers all work — use international format (like +44 …) for numbers outside North America. No account or sign-up required.
  3. Pay for that one fax and track delivery $1.00 for the first page, 25¢ per additional page, with any card. The delivery status updates in real time until the receiving machine confirms the transmission.

Don't have the document as a PDF yet?

From Word, Google Docs, or Pages

Use File → Download → PDF (Google Docs) or File → Export/Save As → PDF (Word, Pages). Faxing the exported PDF — rather than the editable file — guarantees fonts and layout arrive intact.

From a paper document

Scan it with your phone: on iPhone, open Notes, tap the camera icon → Scan Documents, and share the result as a PDF; on Android, the Google Drive app has a scanner built in. Or skip the desktop entirely and send it with the Faxer.me iPhone app — see how to fax from an iPhone.

No document at all?

If you just need to send a short written message, you don't need a PDF: type the message at faxer.me and it's converted into a professional cover page.

Tips so your PDF faxes cleanly

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to fax a PDF?

With Faxer it costs $1.00 for the first page and $0.25 for each additional page, paid once per fax. The price is computed from the real page count of your PDF before you pay — a 4-page PDF costs $1.75. There is no subscription and no account.

How many pages can my PDF have?

Ordinary documents of a few dozen pages fax fine. Very long documents take longer to transmit because fax machines send roughly one page per minute, so a 100-page PDF ties up the receiving machine for over an hour — split extremely long documents if the recipient asks.

Can I fax a password-protected PDF?

Remove the password first. A locked PDF cannot be rendered for transmission. In most PDF viewers you can print the open document to a new PDF, which produces an unprotected copy to fax.

Will the fax look exactly like my PDF?

Yes — PDF is the best format to fax precisely because the layout is fixed. Note that fax is black and white, so colors are converted to grayscale; keep important content high-contrast.

How do I turn a paper document into a PDF to fax?

On iPhone, open the Notes app, tap the camera icon and choose Scan Documents, then share the scan as a PDF. On Android, Google Drive has a built-in scanner. Then upload that PDF to faxer.me or fax it straight from the Faxer.me iPhone app.
